Summary of Position:

The Director, Outsourcing & Vendor Management plays an operational leadership role in delivering services to the R&D organizations. This role will select and serve as a partner to key Contract Research Organizations (CRO) and other R&D Service Provider vendors.  This role is accountable for > $100M in contract value in support of all R&D programs in the portfolio.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead/develop the strategic outsourcing strategy and process for the company
  • Partner with key stakeholders across programs to ensure successful identification, selection and maintenance of vendors, consultants and site contracts
  • Negotiate and manage new vendor contracts and budgets; Manages work order amendments and change orders to ensure appropriate pricing and timely execution
  • Establish potential preferred providers with pre-negotiated discounts for clinical and nonclinical studies
  • Collaborate with the functions and to oversee the vendor selection process including preparation of RFPs and RFIs
  • Track vendor contract timelines; initiate renewal process as needed
  • Ensure completion of vendor close-out activities, final financial reconciliation at end of engagement, and clear documentation
  • Reviews metrics, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and key risk factors to ensure oversight of clinical trial progress and participates in quality review of vendor performance
  • Partner with the key functions and preferred suppliers to analyze trends, assess performance, improve efficiencies, leverage resources, and reduce costs,
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, GCP, and applicable regulations, as well as inspection readiness of all regulated activities
  • Partner with the functions to support budget forecast, vendor accruals and invoicing

Education & Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7-10 years’ experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry and knowledge of drug development process with direct Clinical trial costing and resource benchmarking and forecasting experience
  • Experience leading operations-based teams with business acumen, consultative skills, results orientation and influencing capabilities.
  • Extensive financial experience, including direct oversight of clinical trial and department level budgets, tracking and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results and achieve objectives within budget and timeline constraints.
  • Direct and extensive experience in outsourcing of clinical trial-related services for global study programs, including but not limited to CROs, central labs and other key vendors.
  • Expertise in strategic contracting and budget negotiation within drug development
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills in working with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience developing sourcing strategies with multiple R&D groups including Clinical, Translational Medicine and CMC
